The Flora Fest @ Park Manor
The Flora Fest is a gathering of Malaysian gardeners across forums and groups to promote the passion and love of growing plants. It was a carnival of sorts for Facebook gardening friends to meet, socialise, learn and shop. Free food was provided to participants and visitors. Talks and demonstrations were carried out by volunteers with a green thumb sharing their knowledge.

The Flora Fest is a gathering of Malaysian gardeners across forums and groups to promote the passion and love of growing plants. This event is sponsored by Kumpulan Sierramas (M) Sdn Bhd (a joint venture between Tan & Tan Developments Berhad and KLK Land Sdn Bhd), the developers of Park Manor, and brought to you by enthusiasts who are truly passionate about what they grow.

31 stalls were given to vendors, most of which are gardening enthusiasts. It was a carnival of sorts for Facebook gardening friends to meet, socialise, learn and shop. Free food was provided to participants and visitors. Talks and demonstrations were carried out by volunteers with a green thumb sharing their knowledge. They are experienced growers in their respective flora communities and some of them are qualified botanist. Many benefited from the talks and workshops. Stalls were also setup by these communities and retailers offering accessories and all sorts of plants.
The weekend event saw approximately 1,000 visitors from 5-6 March 2016. The plant community and event managed to brush off some of the enthusiasm and love for these green organisms on their visitors. Hopefully it will also instil interest in the younger generation for nature and excite everyone to get “potty” over these multicellular eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae.
Workshop and talks
The plant community was excited and many saw for the first time in person their friends for many years in the forums. The event gave them the opportunity to meet up and not just friends they know but new friends from other forums and plant communities in Malaysia. There were representatives from carnivorous plant enthusiasts, the succulent and cactus community, composting masters, healthy organic plant people, fruit plant lovers, edible plant growers, passionate gardening buddies and last but not least the mysterious herbs people.
NTV7 featured the Flora fest and some of the plant enthusiasts in their Friday Bella Talk Show. Berita Harian, Sin Chew and Oriental Daily covered the event as well.
